Due to the emphasis given to staff welfare, maintenance provider to the UK supermarket industry, Miller’s Vanguard, has won the Tower FM Award for Best Employer of the Year 2005. Miller’s Vanguard employs over 250 people across the UK, 170 of which live in the North West. Renowned high standards at the company, including expertly maintained offices, stylish engineer’s designer uniforms, meticulously clean FM vehicles and competitive salaries all led to Miller’s Vanguard being nominated for this award.
Managing Director, Brent Miller has a very dedicated philosophy on the importance of staff welfare within the maintenance industry, he explains why he believes Millers Vanguard won this award:
“In a service orientated industry, it’s the people who make the business successful.

Due to the fact 60% of our workforce are field based and spend lots of time away from home, it is important to give something back to the engineers and their families to thank them for the long hours that these husbands and fathers spend on the road. It is the extra benefits given by an employer that ensures staff are happy in their working lives and feel part of a family, rather than just an employee. Miller’s Vanguard is concerned with marketing itself to its own staff as well as to the outside world. Staff greatly appreciate all the events we hold throughout the year including fantastic corporate events and the luxury gifts at festive periods sent out for the employees and more importantly, their families.”
Natalie Rimmington, Miler’s Vanguard Call Centre employee comments: “At Christmas it is lovely being in the office. Although many would see service businesses as very boring, it can actually be more festive being than at home, with all the lovely Christmas decorations and the daily festive food treats. More and more service orientated businesses should think about adopting a more caring attitude in ‘servicing’ the needs of their staff.”
Bury based recruitment consultancy, Daniel Adams initially nominated Miller’s Vanguard for the award, due to their first hand experience in helping to recruit the best staff across Bury and Bolton. Daniel Adams is very proud that their client beat off all the competition to win this prestigious award.
Miller’s Vanguard provides specialist maintenance for bakery & catering equipment and is a business name of the AFE Group - the market leader in the domestic and commercial catering equipment industry.
